MMM outfits for Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
We are halfway through May! I’m not sure if it’s a “Yay!” or “Oh my goodness, where did the time go?” The past week has been busy for us, especially because our house renovation is underway which means that there are plenty of decisions that needed to be made. And the houses are so tiny nowadays that more time are spend researching and hunting for furniture that can fit without making the place looks cramp. What a feat!
Among the craziness of work in the office and house renovation and looking after baby S, I managed to stick to my pledge for MMM and made a blouse!
The inspiration for this blouse was from a top I got from Monki in HongKong years ago. It didn’t clinch at the waist and had plenty of room space at the neck to slip the top over my head. It is my “I’m lazy, I want comfort yet looking presentable” go to piece and I loved it to death. So inspiration strikes and I did a garment hack and self drafted this piece. I made it in the same exact measurement as the blouse I loved, but somehow the neckline became somewhat of a boat neck instead.
The fabric used was a double gauze printed fabric from Cotton and Steel which I bought from Fabric.com. I can spend hours and hours just browsing through the website and shortlisting things I’ll buy. I definitely prefer to shop physically at a fabric store, but it has been hard recently to just steal 2 hrs off and wander around fabric shops, so online shopping will suffice for now. By the way, I really love the prints from Cotton and Steel, slightly abstract and very unique.
This blouse is really simple to make and if undisturbed I can possibly finished it in one afternoon. Though I didn’t take one afternoon, it didn’t take me that long either. However the only thing that I could have done better was the bias I did for the neckline. I wanted to finish it the night I sewed the blouse but lesson learnt was that if I’m tired I should have stopped and continued the next day, I believed I would have a much better neckline.
Now on to hatching my plans for the next piece. Have a great sewing time friends.
