Hello! I’m Adeline! Welcome to Adesays.
I’m a wife, a momma and an avid dressmaker who lives in Singapore.
I enjoy reading ‘About Me’ pages, it’s my way of getting to know the writer behind the blog and to find out about his/her story. So if you are reading this, it would mean that we are like-minded people and I would certainly love to hear from you!
Where do I start? …
It was actually the mister (boyfriend then.. ooh sounds like such a long time ago) who encouraged me to write and start a blog. While I enjoyed my work in the office, I felt that work has dominated my life and I needed an outlet to regain my sanity. So I picked up sewing again and enrolled myself into a dressmaking class.
Born into a family of ladies who sew (my grandma was a tailor and my mom and aunts are proficient dressmakers), I was always surrounded by fabrics, the sound of the sewing machine, running around in fabric stores and playing with the sewing machine as a kid. I started learning sewing when I was a teenager but it soon gave way to ‘cooler’ things, and so I thought.
Then one day, as me and the Mister was watching the movie Julie and Julia, I was exclaiming to him how I resonated with Julie. And while there was no Julia Child’s cookbook to follow, it was he who encouraged me to give myself a challenge and to document my sewing journey and that was how Adesays got started. And through Adesays, I hope to inspire more Singaporeans to pick up sewing and form our little community.
We tied the knot in 2014 and as I got all busy with wedding prep (read more here), I wanted the blog to follow me into my next phase in life. Then Junior came along and being a new momma, everything was new and motherhood was tough!
In this blog, you’ll find..
Sewing: finding this huge sewing community online is like entering a candy shop and spending hours and hours browsing through each and every aisle and I am certainly glad to be part of this community. I also hope to get connected with more Singaporean dressmakers and endeavor to inspire more people in Singapore to pick up sewing through my own experiences.
DIY: in a cosmopolitan city where most things can be bought, it is not often people take a stab at DIY. But we should not forget the joy and accomplishment of having done something yourself and this should be celebrated.
Mommahood: mommahood is tough and hard work and like what they all say, it does take a village to raise a kid. So I hope that through my stories (be it baby food recipes or baby essentials), I can share my journey and encourage new mommas out there.
Recipes: I love eating, who doesn’t right? Maybe that’s why i can’t fully regain my pre-pregnancy weight yet. Argh! But more so, I’ve taking an interest in cooking and making meals for the family. So look out for lots of Asian flavours!
So I hope you will enjoy reading and your stay in my humble blog.
Keep in touch!
