Honestly, I don’t consider myself a blogger mom, I’m just a regular mom who likes to blog! I started this blog as a creative outlet to document my passion for sewing. I love sewing women, kids’ apparels and things for the home! But when my little bub came along in 2014, this little haven also evolved. I started sharing more of my motherhood journey, the ups-downs, joy and challenges and my newfound interest in cooking. While it does seems like a mish-mash of things, it’s exactly how life is to me right now. Now I juggle between family, work and my passion to blog about things that matters.
So read on to find out how an ordinary week looks like for me.
5.45AM: Most people thinks I’m crazy to wake up this early but this blog train has truly enlightened me that I’m certainly not alone. Usually I’ll pry my eyes open and try to slowly ease myself up by checking my phone.
6AM: I’ll be awake and had a glass of warm honey lemon drink, changed into comfy exercise gear and commence a light 15 – 20 mins of Pilates. Usually the house except the Youtube video I am playing on my phone is pretty quiet at this time where Junior is still sound asleep. This peace is a great way to start the day.
6.20AM: While I cool down, I usually takes the time to make breakfast for the mister and me to bring to work. Breakfast could range from French toast, ham and toast or just plain kaya depending on my mood. I’ll also be washing bottles, packing things to be brought to grandma’s.
6.40AM: Round about this time, the mister wakes along with Junior who demands his morning milk. It will be a tiny frenzy as we take turns to shower, I’ll do my makeup, the mister will help with diaper change, we’ll get ourselves ready and endeavour to hit the road by 7.10AM. Depending on which grandma’s we are headed to, we’ll leave the house accordingly.
7.45AM: By this time, I’ll feel like I’ve been awake for a really long time as I start my commute to work. The mister drops me off at a convenient MRT station where I take a short train ride to work. I’ll have some time in the train to catch up on my social media, read some blogs, research on my next sewing project or plan my next blog post.
8.20AM: This is the time where I usually get into the office, I’ll make myself a cup of tea, have my breakfast, get settled down and start clearing those email and plough away at work. I’m practicing this habit of staying organized where I start the day writing my to-dos. I’ll stop at mid-day for lunch and tries to get out of the office by 6.30PM. What a long day!
9PM: We would have had a quick dinner and catch up at grandma’s before we headed home. Junior has either fallen asleep on the way back or we’ll change him, feed him his night milk before tucking into bed. Often, he really misses us and wants to play or have us read to him before he goes to sleep.
10PM: This is my time where I tend to wind down after a busy day and a warm shower. I’ll either be catching up on my TV programmes or Youtube channels which I’ve been following recently. On days when I am really inspired, I’ll be blogging, drafting a sewing pattern or completing a sleeve or hem of a dress. On Fridays, we like to wind down with a pint of beer for the mister and a cider for me, snuggled up and watch some TV or movies together.
11PM: On most nights with the exception of Fridays, I’ll be sure to try to pry myself away from whatever I’m doing and head off to bed!
It really sounds like a lot and it is not easy! Having to juggle family and work and all the challenges that comes with being a working mom but no matter how tired we are, we remain thankful for what we have and I can only say we are indeed blessed to have family help in looking after Junior. That in itself has already given us much comfort to know that we have one less things to worry about. Admist all the busyness it is sometimes difficult to really spend time with the mister, gone were the days where we could go for a nice dinner, or a movie date or hang out with friends on a weekday night. But I’m thankful for all these little pockets of time during our commuting in the car to chat about my day or just anything in general.
Weekends are a lot more unpredictable and we like how we are impromptu about it. We often spend weekends together as a family, meet up with friends, go for playdates or have a lazy day in. So here’s what we did last weekend.
Saturdays are lazy days, we wake when Junior wakes and usually it’s play followed by breakfast and because we were going swimming at a friend’s place, we were out of the door by 10AM.
It was the first time we exposed the swimming pool to Junior and he sure did have fun – what a water baby. Junior resisted sleep even though he was so tired but conked out the moment we stepped into the car to head home. Junior continued to sleep and the mister took the opportunity to also nap while mama did some chores, spend some time photographing for blog posts and sewed a little.
The mister prepared dinner and made us pan-fried chicken thigh, we watched a movie after Junior headed to bed and went to bed just slightly passed midnight.
We will usually head to church on Sundays, deposit the little bub at my parent’s place while we grocery shop and head home for chores. This Sunday however, we brought Junior along when we met with a dear friend for Brunch at Boomarang at Robertson Quay. It was a really nice place, food portion is huge and Junior had fun running up and down the Singapore River. We will have dinner at my parents before Monday blues kick in and we prep for the start of the week.
I try not to put too much stress on myself when it comes to blogging because it is supposed to be fun and spontaneous. So while I’m a lot more aware of photo-taking and remembering to snap photos when we are out, I try not to harp too much on it if all I want is just to spend some quality time with the fam sans the phone. I also like to go with the flow and write about things that struck me or currently is something I am thinking about.
